Barcelona

We had a great time in Barcelona yesterday, saw a lot of the sights including Las Ramblas which is a 4 km stretch of shops and markets. There was a great fountain with a really nice view, Mels favourite so far. We also walked along the beaches and through some of the parks. We are heading back today to watch the Aus vs Cro game.

  • Barcelona. It is magic city. It's no wonder why Barcelona city is so popular. Fabulous architecture, brilliant Spanish cuisine, flamboyant culture and wonderful weather combine to make Barcelona a truly magnificent city. Also I enjoyed my accommodation, we booked from many of Barcelona hotels one, which was close to wonderful beach. And of course a trip to Barcelona wouldn't be complete without strolling down Las Ramblas through stalls selling flowers and birds, the street artists inventing even more intriguing things to mime and be painted up as statues, and buy packs of fresh fruit from the colourful market.

  • As I was approaching Barcelona by airplane, I noticed that it was reminiscent of my old hometown of San Diego, CA. High, semi-arid peaks surround the city like guards watching over a vault of jewels. And in a real sense, Barcelona is a vault of jewels; jewels imagined by Antoni Gaudi's visionary architectural genius; jewels in the form of surviving structures from the Roman Empire; jewels in the spirit of a people who know how to live life.
That spirit is the very spirit of Catalunya. The people of Barcelona are proud of their distinctive culture and very welcoming in sharing it with visitors. If at all possible, try to give yourself a few extra days in Barcelona; days designated for doing nothing but sitting in a public square, sipping cafes, eating tapas, and talking with the friendly locals. You won't be disappointed.
